Landing an agent and getting a cookbook deal is the dream of many food bloggers, the motivation to whip out the camera before taking a bite, and the reason we consume way too many dinners cold. The dream has become a reality for many of my friends, most recently and most deservedly for Jennie Perillo whose amazing recipes set the bar long before she lost her husband this August. Jennie’s cookbook Country Girl, City Kitchen will be coming out next summer, followed by her memoir the next year.
One of my closest food blogging friends, Gina Von Esmarch, chose to take her dream into her own hands. Rather than waiting for an agent to call, she self-published her cookbook. And because her recipes were delicious and the photographs of her food were mouth watering, she not only succeeded in printing a beautiful cookbook, she also made a profit doing it.
The first cookbook, Taste This! was actually how I met Gina and eventually became good friends with her. She sent me a copy of the cookbook to review and I loved her easy to follow recipes that ranged from Italian recipes handed down from her grandmother to decadent desserts. Her nacho encrusted chicken is a favorite at our kitchen table. I reviewed the cookbook, began following her blog, and finally met her at BlogHer. Whenever I travel to San Francisco, I look forward to reuniting with her kind smile and contagious laugh.
Gina sent me a copy of her second cookbook title, Taste This! The Delicious Sequel to review and I couldn’t wait to dig in. The photography is as delicious as the last time, and the 79 recipes are easy to execute and appealing. Many recipes can be made in advance to cut down on work when entertaining. I cannot wait to make the Kahlua Cake or the Lemony Chicken Milanese. Because I had planned to purchase Gina’s book, I’ll do a giveaway of a copy instead. If your name is chosen as the winner, I’ll buy the book and have Gina send it to you directly. That way I’ll be supporting Gina and introducing you to her recipes, spreading the love and good food.
To enter to win, please leave me a comment with the name of your favorite food blog(s). Let’s keep spreading the lovel and introducing each other to great cooks. I’ll select the winner at random after midnight on Sunday, January 29.
And there’s many ways to earn additional chances to win, just make sure to return here to leave comments for each additional entry. You can:
