Family Friendly Luxury at the Peninsula Chicago

When we moved to Chicago a year and a half ago, we wanted to take a few days to see the city as tourists, but couldn’t make the time. This New Year’s weekend, thanks to a great promotional offer at the Peninsula, we brought in 2012 in style. The promo was targeted at local families: $399 a night, kids eat free, complimentary breakfast, and free parking.

So many luxury hotels claim to be child-friendly, but beyond a well-tucked away children’s center, really prefer children to be seen and not heard. Although the Peninsula promo rate was targeted at families with kids, I still expected to do a fair amount of shushing of my loud crew.

Our entire family was treated like royalty during our stay. The children’s menus were actually labeled Menu for Prince and Princesses. Our closet was filled with bathrobes in the children’s exact sizes and a cute Peninsula bear was waiting for each child on the pillow, including in Sophie’s crib. And during our first evening, room service surprised us with a tray of chocolate chip cookies, rainbow jello, gummy bears, and buttered popcorn.

Treats for Kids at the Peninsula ChicagoThe kids declared the Peninsula was the best hotel in the world, and that was before they discovered the TV in the bathtub.  We were only 20 minutes from home, but we felt as relaxed as if we were on a sunny Caribbean beach. We’ll be stalking the Peninsula website looking for another amazing deal that will take us far away without leaving home.
